October Submissions Now Open!
Luna Negra is one of the longest-running publications at Kent State University. As a literary arts magazine, we strive to amplify your voices.
In keeping with this mission, we are opening submissions monthly to all Kent State students. At the end of each month, winning submissions will be published on our website and promoted on social media.
We accept original, unpublished work of prose, poetry, creative nonfiction, fine art, photography, and illustration. We also welcome vibrant, dynamic works that may live outside these categories.
For written submissions, we request .doc/.docx or .pdf file types. Prose and creative nonfiction should be no longer than ten pages in double-spaced Times New Roman 12pt font. For visual submissions, we accept .pdf, high-resolution .jpg, or .tiff file types (.tiff files are preferred). We prefer the DPI for files should be 300 or higher.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact email@example.com. We thank you for trusting Luna Negra as a home for your art.
Creative nonfiction is a versatile and dynamic category. We are looking for honesty, insight, and personality. If you have a question about this category and how your work might fit, please contact us. We request .doc/.docx or .pdf file types and ask that pieces do not exceed 3,000 words. Longer pieces will be considered, but may be excerpted.
Art and Illustration:
We seek visuals that captivate the audience and present new perspectives. All techniques are welcome and encouraged, whether traditional, digital, or experimental. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about the medium or nature of your work.
We request .pdf, .jpg, .gif or .tiff image files (with resoltion at least 300 DPI). For video, please send .mp4 or .mov files.
We prefer that fiction submissions do not exceed 3,000 words. Longer submissions will be considered, but may be excerpted. If you have a question concerning the length of your piece, please contact us. We request .doc/.docx or .pdf file types.
We want to see your unique perspective on the world as seen through your own lens. We seek the unusual and unconventional, straying away from familiar sights.
We request .pdf, .jpg or .tiff image files (at a resolution of at least 300 DPI).
In order to get a stronger sense of the poet’s style and voice, we encourage the submission of three to five poems, though we are also happy to accept submissions with fewer pieces. We request that the submitter sends us one submission with a single document of multiple poems rather than multiple submissions. We request .doc/.docx or .pdf file types.
